Resilience is a crucial skill in everyday (working) life. Now more than ever.

While stress has increased since the pandemic—according to Gallup, it's at an all-time high of 44%—life and work have always presented challenges. Cultivating resilience helps us deal with these challenges effectively.

Resilient people are able to act thoughtfully in the face of unexpected changes and stressors, rather than simply reacting. They not only confront difficulties but also use them as opportunities to learn, grow personally, and foster new relationships and innovations. A resilient workforce can therefore be a company's greatest competitive advantage.

An animated figure in a seated meditation posture holds a green sphere with the inscription "WOL". The figure wears a white T-shirt and blue trousers.

If we observe and ask people around us, one explanation is that we all want to feel less stressed and a little happier. We want to stay in a state of "flow." This means we want to be less driven and less digitally overstimulated at work and in everyday life. At the same time, this is often becoming increasingly difficult for us.

WOL Resilience addresses precisely these issues. A WOL Resilience Circle consists of three to five participants and serves as a learning, safe, and experimental space all in one. The Circle meets for one hour per week eight weeks . Here, tasks are developed collaboratively with mutual support and feedback. In addition, there are small daily tasks for all participants, each a maximum of 10 minutes . This allows participants to practice these simple methods and, through daily repetition, establish them sustainably in their everyday lives.

The 8-week program is structured to help participants develop resilient skills: greater control, clarity, compassion, self-confidence, composure, satisfaction, and commitment, as well as building relationships with others. The increase in one's own perceived resilience is assessed several times throughout the program through self-evaluation.

The five principles of WOL resilience

Two cartoon-like figures shake hands under a blue circle with the letters "WOL".

Relationships and exchange

Exchanging ideas with others broadens our perspectives and strengthens our resilience. Through open discussions and the shared exchange of experiences, we learn from and with each other, and support one another. In this way, we build a strong network that offers us support and new approaches to solutions in difficult times.

Self-reflection

By regularly pausing and reflecting on our experiences, we recognize patterns and can make targeted changes. In this way, we develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and our reactions to challenges.

Developing mental skills

Through targeted exercises and reflective thinking, we can strengthen our concentration and problem-solving skills. This helps us develop a more resilient attitude towards challenges.

Growth-oriented thinking

To approach things openly and curiously, thereby discovering the diverse possibilities and developing them further for ourselves.

Energy management

By consciously taking breaks and resting, we find a balance between tension and relaxation. This allows us to maintain our performance in the long term and meet challenges with greater strength and endurance.

How Working Out Loud® works

Three cartoon characters in blue clothing; one is waving, two are giving each other high-fives. A large number one is to their left.

Exchange in small, familiar groups

Working and exchanging ideas in a confidential, psychologically safe environment promotes mutual support, a sense of community, and human connection.

Number 20 with a target and an arrow in the middle.

Everyone works towards an individual goal

Each participant sets their own (learning) goal for the 12 weeks. This fosters intrinsic motivation, increases active engagement, and enables learning to occur almost incidentally and through reflection.

Three yellow books titled "Working Out Loud" in blue and pink lettering. Each book has different subtitles: "Resilience Workbook," "The Circle Workbook," and "For Teams." The number 3 is visible in the background.

A structured curriculum

Clearly defined weekly structures, procedures and exercises provide a simple framework for working and learning on one's own topic in a self-organized way within the group.

Establishing new habits over time

Through gradual practice, week after week, sustainable habits are built and a new way of thinking is cultivated that is useful for achieving any goal.
