Today we're talking about the topic of self-efficacy .

A word that will hopefully pique your curiosity. Because it contains a small detail that makes a big difference: We deliberately capitalize "WE".

What does self-efficacy mean?

Self-efficacy is the confidence in one's own abilities to successfully overcome challenges and to actively influence one's own future.

It strengthens the feeling of agency and competence – and has been proven to have a positive impact on motivation, resilience, and creativity . This makes self-efficacy one of the crucial future skills of our time.

Self-efficacy arises from togetherness

But true self-efficacy doesn't arise solely within the individual. It arises from interaction with others.

Self-efficacy arises in relationships; that is, it changes depending on the situation and environment. Even though it begins with introspection, it often manifests more strongly in the reflection of others.

When people strengthen each other, feel seen, and unfold their impact first individually and then together – then magic happens, for themselves and others.

The ability to actively shape the future

Self-efficacy is the ability to actively shape change with clarity and commitment – ​​in one's own mind, in the team, and in the system. And the knowledge that one is capable of this and has the confidence to take on such tasks.

The good news: Like any other skill, self-efficacy can be strengthened in a targeted way. With the right support, honest self-reflection – and small, consistent steps in everyday life.

Psychological roots – and future skills today

The term originally comes from psychology (Albert Bandura). Today, it is considered a key factor for motivation, resilience, and adaptability . The World Economic Forum ranks self-efficacy among the most important future skills of our time.
